Mehta & McConnell is pleased to announce the winner of the Mehta & McConnell Undergrad Scholarship.
After reviewing this year’s submissions, we are proud to recognize the annual scholarship contest winner, Logan Haskins.
Logan is a freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. He will receive the $1,000 scholarship award, which will be applied toward his college tuition. Logan comes from a family dedicated to public service. His mother works as a nurse for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, and his father is a Deputy Sheriff with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
We congratulate Logan on this achievement and thank all students who took the time to participate in this year’s scholarship contest!
About the Mehta & McConnell Undergrad Scholarship
The Mehta & McConnell Undergrad Scholarship was created to encourage students to engage with important workplace issues and think critically about how the law affects real people.
As part of the 2025 contest, applicants were asked to submit a 200- to 300-word essay discussing the challenges an undocumented worker may face after being injured at work and how laws could better protect them. The scholarship was open to eligible students living in or attending school in North or South Carolina, including graduating high school seniors and students currently enrolled in college or trade school.
Why This Scholarship Matters
As workers’ compensation lawyers, the team at Mehta & McConnell understands that a work-related injury can have far-reaching consequences beyond the job itself. For undocumented workers, those challenges can be compounded by uncertainty about their rights, fear of retaliation, and limited access to information or resources.
This scholarship was created to help bring awareness to those challenges and to encourage thoughtful discussion about how workplace laws can better protect all workers.
